BBQ Sauce with a Kick

Whenever we smoke pork or brisket, I always make this homemade BBQ sauce to tie together my Smoky Pork Rub we put on the meat and the smokiness of the meat when it is done...

What Ingredients You Will Need:

  • 2 Cups Ketchup

  • 1/2 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 3/4 Cup Light Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 Cup Hot Sauce

  • 1/4 Cup Red Wine Vinegar

  • 1/8 Cup Spicy Mustard

  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

  • 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

  • 1/2 Tbsp Onion Powder

  • 1/2 Tbsp Paprika

  • 1/2 Tbsp Garlic Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Chipotle Chile Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Ground Mustard

  • 1 tsp Chili Powder

Directions to Deliciousness:

  1. First, rub your pork shoulder with my Smoky Pork Rub and either cook the pork in a smoker or an oven until the internal temperature of 200 degrees to melt all of the fat -- The last pork shoulder I smoked was approximately 7lbs and it was in the smoker for 5 1/2 hours. After the smoker, I transferred the pork wrapped in aluminum foil into the oven that was preheated to 250 degrees for 30 minutes, which is when it hit the desired internal temperature.

  2. When your pork has approximately two hours remaining of cook time, begin to make the BBQ sauce

  3. Combine all ingredients in a medium size stockpot or a large sauce pan

  4. Whisk the sauce until everything is well combined

  5. Bring the sauce to a light boil on medium - high on your stovetop

  6. Once it has come to a light boil, cover the pot and reduce the temperature to medium - low

  7. Let the sauce simmer for at least two hours while stirring occasionally - the longer that you let the sauce simmer - the more the spices will break down and blend together

  8. Best if served warm over freshly baked or smoked chicken, pork, or beef!
