Garlic and Brown Sugar Bourbon Marinade

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

This is one marinade that has immense versatility and turns out different every time depending if I'm craving spicy, savory, or a little sweet... The below recipe is always the base I start off with and then I build my desired flavor from there...

What Ingredients You Will Need:

  • 3 Chicken Breasts (I cut them into tender-size pieces for faster cooking time)

  • 1 Packet of McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Marinade

  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 1/3 cup Water

  • 2 Tbsp Whatever Bourbon or Whiskey that you have around the house

  • 2 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

  • 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic

  • 1 Tbsp Spicy Mustard

  • 1 Tbsp Red Hot (or your favorite hot sauce)

  • 1 tsp Cajun Seasoning

  • 1 tsp Onion Powder

  • 1 tsp Chili Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper

Directions to Deliciousness:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees

  2. Trim and cut chicken breasts into desired sizes

  3. Whisk together the remaining ingredients to make the marinade in a separate bowl so you can taste as you adjust and add ingredients that sound good to you

  4. Once the marinade tastes delicious, add the chicken breasts in and coat them well -- (For better flavor, marinate the chicken in the sauce for at least an hour, or for the best flavor, marinate overnight)

  5. Place the chicken and marinade in a greased baking dish ( I rotate between a canola oil and an avocado oil non-stick spray)

  6. Baking time will vary depending on the size of your chicken pieces, check the internal temperature of the chicken often, as well as flipping the pieces and recovering in sauce to keep each piece moist and to ensure even baking -- Chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees

  7. Serve in countless dishes -- chicken salads, with a little bit of the baked marinade instead of dressing may be a personal favorite :)
